NOAA/NCEI and University of Colorado candidate models for IGRF-13

Abstract The International Geomagnetic Reference Field (IGRF) is a set of parameters representing the large-scale internal part Earth’s magnetic field. 13th generation IGRF requested candidate models for definitive main field 2015.0, provisional 2020.0, and predictive secular variation covering period 2020.0–2025.0. University Colorado (CU) National Centers Environmental Information (NCEI), Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), have produced these three consideration in IGRF-13. In this paper, we present methodology used to derive our models. Our candidates were built primarily from Swarm satellite data, also relied on geomagnetic indices derived ground observatory network. observatories played crucial role as independent data validating candidates. This paper provides retrospective assessment CU/NCEI model previous (IGRF-12) discusses impact differences between final global errors.
